Check Equipment...

Always check your equipment before you use it. Check that Parts are not becoming loose, check handles and any frayed wick or wire.

Never Spin Fire Alone...

It’s pretty hard for you to see if your back is on fire. Make sure your that you both know where your extinguisher & first aid are!

Safety for others...

Check out your location for flammables. Be aware trees close by, bushes and long grass. Ensure your fuelling station is well marked, well away from your audience and out of the area you’re fire spinning in. Ensure that onlookers keep a respectable distance.

First Aid for Burns...

The area should be immediately placed under cool running water for as long as it takes to reduce pain, redness and associated swelling which may occur in these circumstances. (this may take up to 30 minutes or more) If blistering has occurred, whether before or during this procedure, continue with the same treatment.

Blisters should be protected and not burst. A blister provides the skin with a sterile fluid environment, which will protect and prevent bacteria from entering and infecting the area.

Reddened areas, where the skin is unbroken, can be dressed with clean bandages or similar for comfort and pain relief.

If large or broken blisters are present Do not apply a dry dressing. The wound should be protected by either a plastic bag (suitable for hand or foot injuries), or cling film gently applied until medical treatment is obtained.

Awkward locations such as nose, ears and cheeks etc should also be treated with water. Obviously it is more difficult to place these areas under running water but clean material can be used as a ‘water pad’. This pad should be frequently changed to ensure the area remains cool.

Drink water, never alcohol Seek medical attention if possible. Do not apply lotions or moisturizers, Do not overcool with ice, and Do not put towels or adhesive bandages directly on your burn.

Safety on standby...

If you don't have Extinguisher, have a wet towl laid out so if you can't put the falmes out or when doing short acts the flames can be put out more easier. have a budy system so you keep a look out for each other.

What to Wear...

Wear tight fitting natural fibre clothing. Plastics not only catch fire quickly, they will also melt to your skin.

Best wear is pure cotton Fire test costumes before performing, or don’t wear anything. Hide or dampen hair.
